Britain's best swimmers battle it out in the pool at the British Gas International

THURSDAY 7TH MARCH – SUNDAY 10TH MARCH 2013: Some of the biggest names in world swimming competed at the inaugural British Gas International Meet in Leeds, the first international swimming event on home soil since London 2012.

Four-time Paralympic gold medallist Ellie Simmonds, world short course 400 IM champion Hannah Miley, 2012 Olympic 200m breaststroke silver medallist Michael Jamieson and Plymouth-based Olympic 100m breaststroke champion Ruta Meilutyte were among the stars in the pool at the John Charles Centre for Sport in Leeds.

It’s been a great opportunity for the public to show support for Britain’s best swimmers at the start of an exciting year, which will culminate in a battle for World Championship medals at the FINA Long Course World Championships in Barcelona and the IPC Swimming World Championships in Montreal this summer.

2013 will also be a big year for swimmers all over the country, as British Gas launches SwimBritain, a campaign to create a healthier nation and get more people swimming regularly by 2015. Visit www.facebook.com/BGSwimming

The British Gas International takes place at the John Charles Centre for Sport in Leeds from Thursday 7th – Sunday 10th March 2013.
