Joined by Olympic Star Jonathan Edwards, a selection of Scotland’s most promising young athletes discuss how they have been inspired by the UK's preparations for London 2012 and how they themselves hope to be part of a major championships on home soil when the Commonwealth Games arrive in Glasgow in 2014.
Speaking from Scotstoun Stadium, the athletes are all part of the Bank of Scotland Local Heroes programme. Since 2010, several of Scotland’s up and coming athletes have received grants reaching up to £1,000 to help cover the cost of training, competition and travel. Today in Glasgow, the athletes will take part in a day long workshop that is aimed at equipping them with all the tools they need to reach the top in their respective sports with sessions focusing on media training, sports psychology and the legacy of the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games.
Bank of Scotland Local Heroes Programme is supporting 81 athletes in Scotland for 2012, of which 51 are new to the programme this year. Since 2008, 170 Scottish athletes have been supported through the programme.
