In less than two weeks time Sascha Kindred will line up with Britain’s best disability swimmers at The British Gas Swimming Championships to battle for a place at the biggest competition of his career.

The British Gas Swimming Championships, which doubles as the Paralympic Games selection trials, takes place from 3rd – 10th March 2012 at the London Aquatics Centre. It will be Kindred’s first chance to compete in the pool where he will be hoping to defend his titles this summer.

If Herefordshire based Sascha is the overall fastest swimmer in his classification after The British Gas Swimming Championships and the British International Disability Swimming Championships in April, he will be nominated for the Games, providing he’s achieved the qualifying time.

Sascha Kindred OBE was born in Germany but grew up in Oldham. He is one of Great Britain's most successful disability swimmers, dominating in breaststroke and individual medley (IM) events for more than a decade. He competes in the S6 butterfly, SM6 medley and SB7 breaststroke classifications.

Overall, Sascha has won a total of six Paralympic, nine World and eleven European Championship gold medals (49 medals in total including silver and bronze) and has represented Great Britain at four Paralympic Games (Atlanta 1996, Sydney 2000, Athens 2004 and Beijing 2008) thus far. In addition, he currently holds a number of British, European, Paralympic and World records.

We have exclusive interview footage of Sascha talking about his preparations for the British Gas Swimming Championships 2012 (selection trials).
