84% Of Scottish Children Said That They Would Like Their School To Host Classes Or Sessions Where They Could Try Some Olympic Or Paralympic Sports

Sir Chris Hoy is announcing his support of Bank of Scotland’s Partnership with the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games in Scotland as he kicks off this year’s National School Sport Week. Touring a selection of Edinburgh schools, Chris launches an Olympic inspired sporting Road Show involving 300 4 year old primary school children.

National School Sport Week, in partnership with Sportscotland, hopes to capitalise on the enthusiasm and appetite from young people inspired by London 2012 to take part in more sport. Research released today reveals four out of five (84%) of children surveyed across Scotland said that they would like their school to host classes or sessions where they could try some Olympic or Paralympic sports that they haven’t tried before. Over half (57%) say that having the next Games held on home soil will inspire them to participate in more sport.

Throughout the week, children will be encouraged to try an Olympic or Paralympic sport that they have not experienced before with activities and events running from 7th-11th June. Over 700 schools will be involved and will participate in a range of activities including Mini-Olympic Games and Inter-school events.
